At the end of Secretariate these words are spoken:
“In frenzied excitement he eats up the ground; he cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds. At the blast of the trumpet he snorts, “Aha!” He catches the scent of battle from afar, then shout of commanders and the battle cry.”
At the end of Job these words are spoken “After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord made him prosperous again and gave him twice as much as he had before.”
I find it interesting that before Job was given back more than what he had lost he had to pray for his friends. Forgiveness is at the foundation of a grateful heart. We cannot be grateful when we are carrying around unforgiveness and bitterness. Whether it is towards others, ourselves or even God. Until that is released we are incapable of seeing all that He has blessed us with. When Job released it all, God restored even more than He had lost.
It’s important to know that Job’s children weren’t returned. There was a still pieces that could never be retrieved. When divorce happens, or death happens there are pieces that can never be retrieved. Rarely are mommy and daddy back together, and I haven’t heard of any one being raised from the dead in a while. But God can still bring beautiful gifts into our lives that exceed what we hoped or dreamed for…I am living proof.
I made the decision early on in the divorce process that no more years would be robbed from me. The enemy had stolen all he would still. And he sure wasn’t going to rob from me with anger and unforgiveness. So, do you know what I’ve learned to do when someone makes me exceptionally angry? I process what I’m angry about. Check to see if I have a piece in it. Then I pray for that person. You can’t stay angry at someone you’re praying for…And God has given to me double…well, honestly double and double than what I had before. May our hearts be grateful….because God has been exceptionally kind.
