Job had to pray for his friends before God began to bless him again. Why is forgiveness so necessary to receive from God?
God moves to restore relationship with us when it’s become broken. In this case Job’s lack of forgiveness was getting in the way of his relationship with God. Un-forgiveness is a sign of lack of trust in God because it leaves us in a false place of control.
It says Job’s latter was greater than his former, but yet the children he lost would never be replaced. How can we be grateful for the new seasons of life even when the exact things we’ve lost have not been replaced?
All of creation belongs to God and He can do with it as He wishes. We easily forget that creation has only been entrusted to us. If we’re holding on loosely to this life we have the freedom to enjoy all that it has to offer which includes the experience of loss. The idea of replacement is rooted in the thought that God owes us something. He doesn’t owe us anything therefore everything He gives is a gift…it’s up to us to see it.
Ken Edwards is a graduate of the University of Arkansas and has earned a Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Counseling and a Master of Arts in Religious Education of Southwestern Seminary. But his discernment matches his education and for me often the greater gift. He lives with his wife Janet and three children in Franklin, Tennessee. And this is him enjoying what he loves, the mountains in Wyoming. Except he's usually behind the camera. And he has been kind enough to spend Friday’s with us. What he is offering us regarding his time is a gift. I hope we will take advantage of it.
